Yesterday, Elon Musk provided an interesting update on the direction of their research and planned improvements at the TESLA 2020 Annual Shareholder Meeting and Battery Day. You can watch the entire event via link provided below. Namely, he announced new technologies that will allow Tesla to make the following improvements in the next 2-3 years:

- Increase its battery cell energy capacity by 50%;

- Dramatically reduce battery cost;

- Significantly improve and simplify battery cell manufacturing process;

- Resolve thermal issue when supercharging;

- Use cheaper and more abundant silicon as one of main battery components;

- Drive down the cost of batteries while increasing the driving range;

- Improve and localize lithium and nickel production in North America;

- Use recycled batteries as an increasingly important source of material for new battery cells;

- Include batteries in the structure of the car, making essentially structural batteries to reduce weight, improve structural integrity, simplify manufacturing, and drive down the costs;

- Use metal cast body parts to reduce cost and manufacturing complexity;

- Achieve the following changes to their vehicles -10% mass; +14% range, -370 parts;
